Known Bugs and Workarounds

At times there are issues that we cannot correct on our side for various reasons out of our hands. This page collects information on these in addition to known workarounds, for your benefit.

Printing fails in GTK Applications

You will need to submit your print jobs twice from GTK Applications, as the first submission of these fails without feedback. The second submission works as expected. Further submissions work as expected: one submission is enough.

This behavior applies to each open GTK Window seperately. As an example, when sucessfully submitting a print job from Firefox, and then trying to submit one from the PDF viewer evice, you will need to submit that one a second time before it is successful.

Your account will not be debited for initial unsuccessful print job.

KDE & GNOME not available in X2Go

The newest version of the KDE and GNOME desktop environments are unavailable over X2Go. This is an unfortunate side effect of increasing reliance of these on hardware features and various display server extensions that are unsupported in X2Go. We are diligently working to provide a replacement solution. Until then we advise to use altenative, functional desktop environments such as XFCE or LXDE.

Loggin into KDE Session only shows a Blank Desktop Background

There have been spurious reports of KDE issues these past few weeks. The symption is, that the default KDE session only shows the desktop background after logging in. The source of these issues are incompatibility issues with old KDE configuration files in your home directory. Deleting these solves the issue, but also deletes all your personal KDE preferences, including Kwallet passwords.

If you still mean to apply the workaround, you should delete these folders (backing them up first!):

~/.cache
~/.kde
~/.local/share/kded5
~/.config/plasma*

XFCE suddenly looks very outdated

Since a recent XFCE Desktop Environment update, GTK themes may not be properly located. Providing the default Theme  configuration explicitly should fix the Look and Feel. To do so, copy our default into your home as shown below.

cp /etc/xdg/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xsettings.xml ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xsettings.xml

TWiki Login Issues with Chrome/-ium / Safari

We recommend accessing the TWiki via Firefox, as other browsers have issues doing so, as detailed below.

Chrome/-ium:

  • You are receiving the same HTTP Basic Auth Dialog dozens of times

This is a credential caching issue in your brower, which we can't fix on our side. We recommend you use Kerberos instead of Passwords, which works around this issue and is generally preferred.

Safari:

  • Your (seemingly correct) password is rejected

This is caused by an issue with your keychain. Deleting the TWiki entry in your keychain  and re-adding it should let you access TWiki again.

Printing in Duplex Mode from your Browser

Printing documents in duplex mode from your browser is currently broken. Try exporting your document to PDF or PostScript and then printing as duplex instead.
