The mandatory module “Computer Science” consists of the three courses “Operating Systems (OS)”, “Advanced Computer Architecture (ACA)” and “Hardware/Software Codesign (HSCD)”. HSCD is offered in the summer semester, the other two courses are offered in the winter semester. The module is completed by an oral exam with two examiners but covers all three courses ("3-course exam").
This 3-course exam is generally not very popular with students and lecturers. In particular for international students starting their studies with winter semester it creates difficulties in the study organization.
The examination committee Computer Engineering has therefore decided to allow students to partition the 3-course exam into a 2-course exam covering OS+ACA and a 1-course exam covering HSCD. A different partitioning is not possible due to administrative reasons. This regulation is valid until end of summer semester 2017. Most likely, with the following winter semester 2017/18 new examination rules will become effective. We will inform you in due time about any changes.
Now students have two options:
A) You register in PAUL for the mandatory module “Computer Science” and take the 3-course exam as specified in the examination rules.
B) You take one exam in OS+ACA an another exam in HSCD. In case you want to go for this option, please inform me about that. I will help with the organization of the two exams and then combine the achieved marks into the overall module mark by weighting the marks with the courses’ credit points, and finally enter the module mark into PAUL.
