Thesis Template Tournament of UPB CS

And the winner is...

The final thesis template of the 2017 tournament.

Original call...

Looking for a template for your Bachelor, Master, or PhD thesis? Wondering why there is no official template? Bothered by the need to come with your own template, even though you are no good at LaTeX (and you know that Word just doesn't do it...).

Or remember your own thesis work, confused by all the different templates of the different work groups? And none of them really satisfied your texnical ambitions, let alone typographical ones? But never saw the point of collecting all of it in one place, easy to resue?

Here is your chance!

Welcome to the first (?) Thesis Template Tournament of UPB's Department of Computer Science!

We look for the ultimate template to be recommended to students for their thesis, alleviating needless work from generations of students to come.

We look for the ultimate template to be recommended to students for their thesis, alleviating needless work from generations of students to come.

What's in it for me?

  • Unending fame
  • An Amazon voucher for first place (100 €)
  • A certificate for runners up

What to do?

Prepare a great template! Make sure it is easy to use and looks great!

It should:

  • Comprise LaTeX files as required, using modern and easily available LaTeX standards (e.g., BibLaTeX, pdflatex, ...)
  • Comprise supporting files (e.g., Makefile) as required, but keep it simple!
  • Adhere to UPB's guidelines as far as reasonable (e.g., use colors and logos), but do not introduce commercial fonts
  • Be well documented (in English, please!)
  • Contain a licence file stating everything is under GPL, Apache, BSD or similar licence

You have to agree that we will make your template publicly available in suitable form, e.g., using a GitHub repository.

Where and when?

Send an email with a zip file or a link to a repository (preferred) to eim-i-prodekan(at)lists.uni-paderborn(dot)de by Monday, December 18th, 2017, 11am!

Committee: Alex Wiens, Sascha Brauer, Holger Karl

The committee will decide before Christmas, with the voucher handed over probably on Thursday, December 21st.
