PICTURE

5G-PICTURE aims at designing and developing the next generation of converged infrastructure integrating a variety of advanced wireless access network technologies through novel wireless, optical and packet network solutions. This infrastructure interconnects a large number of “disaggregated” compute/storage and network elements and deploy the concepts of hardware programmability and network softwarisation to facilitate the Dis-Aggregated RAN approach which consequently enables the provisioning of any service across the infrastructure by flexibly and efficiently mixing-and-matching network, compute and storage resources.

TANGO

5GTANGO is a 5GPPP Phase2 Innovation Action that enables the flexible programmability of 5G networks with: a) an NFV-enabled Service Development Kit (SDK); b) a Store platform with advanced validation and verification mechanisms for VNFs/Network Services qualification (including 3rd party contributions); and, c) a modular Service Platform with an innovative orchestrator in order to bridge the gap between business needs and network operational management systems.

Acoustic Sensor Networks

One of the properties and main challenges of a WSN is its resource limitation. Unlike low-data rate applications, data acquisition for high resolution applications obviously have high requirements (e.g., processing power, transmission rate).

One such high-resolution is distributed collection and processing of acoustic signals: such acoustic sensor networks (ASN) are the focus of this DFG Forschergruppe (DFG Research Group). Specifically, we look into virtualization of the ASN for real-time acoustic applications. It considers resource-aware programming to guarantee high quality without exhausting network resources.

NICCI

Network Informed Control-Control Informed Network

This DFG Sponsored project aims to develop theoretical basis for the paradigm change from throughput to real time oriented Communication for Network Control System in order to meet Cyber- Physical Systems application requirements.The project is looking for integration of all communication ,control and system components tightly (horizontal and vertical) to explicitly exploit their individual elasticity and potential.

SONATA

Service Programing and Orchestration for Virtualized Software Networks

Virtualisation and software networks are a major disruptive technology for communications networks, enabling services to be deployed as software functions running directly in the network on commodity hardware. However, deploying the more complex user-facing applications and services envisioned for 5G networks presents significant technological challenges for development and deployment. KoI

Koordinierte Industriekommunikation

The KoI project is funded by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) and is a collaboration between academia and industry to develop a wireles communication concept for industrial environments. More details can be found on the project's own webpage.

SFB 901: "On-The-Fly Computing"

This is a research project funded by the DFG collaborative research center SFB 901 "On-The-Fly-Computing". The research center investigates individually and automatically configured IT services which are composed from and executed on a marked of world wide traded combinalbe services and execution platforms. Within this research center our research group investigates the the communication network as one important ingredient for such market platform. Our research covers the realization and optimization of overlays over real networks. More details can be found on the project's own webpage.
