Research

We invite you to become acquainted with our work and see how excellency and top level research develop.

The Department of Computer Science is based on a broad basis of leading research. Therefore, we are not only involved in two collaborative research centres (CRC), two graduate schools of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and the North-Rhine/Westphalia graduate school of "Dynamic Intelligent Systems(see graduate schools), but also in many further projects funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, the state of North-Rhine/Westphalia, the federal republic of Germany and the European Union (see selected projects).

We see our future fields of activity in the two subject areas „Cyber Physical Systems“ and „Distributed Computing“. In the area of cyber physical systems we deal with the increasing fusion of computer science with technical products resulting in intelligent systems of information technology and mechatronics, as well as the deeper integration of computer science into even the smallest objects of everyday life and their increasing interconnectivity. In the area of distributed computing, we take up the challenge of the strongly growing size and complexity of global networks and systems of information technology, along with the international interlacing of software development that accompanies it.

Our renowned research establishments, namely: the Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing (PC²), the Cooperative Computing and Communication Laboratory (C-LAB) and the Software Quality Lab (s-lab), represent our direct gateways to the economy.

The Department of Computer Science is also a mainstay of the internationally known, multidisciplinary Heinz Nixdorf Institute, which is involved in the design of complex intelligent distributed systems.

A quick and active exchange of research is important to us. With our colloquium series and the monthly article series "Research InSight" we have established two successful platforms for the exchange of current research topics.

If you are interested in cooperating with the Department of Computer Science, please contact the managing body of the department or directly one of our professors.
