Security and Privacy in Instant Messaging

Life without Instant Messaging protocols like WhatsApp is hardly imaginable for most people. Personal and confidential data is exchanged using these protocols, but unlike conventional means of communication like email and short messages, data is processed by a single company. To establish trust, IM systems provide extensive security guarantees including emerging objectives such as "Future Secrecy". This project aims at evaluating the compliance with these new security definitions.

As a part of the research group "Human Centered Systems Security - North Rhine-Westphalian Experts on Research in Digitalization" (NERD) this project is run in cooperation with Prof. Jörg Schwenk, Chair Network and Data Security, Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
