LZI Vortrag: Data Scientist: The Sexiest Job of the 21st Century

Abstract:

Data is one of the dominating topics these days: Whether consciously created by us (e.g., pictures from our smartphones) or unconsciously (e.g., through hidden web tracking platforms). In any case, you may ask the question what it means in practice to work with data and what skillset do I need? Furthermore, why is it entitled „The Sexiest Job of the 21st Century“?
In this presentation, we discuss possible answers to these questions from the perspective of two data scientists. With practical examples ranging from customer to web analytics, we show typical challenges a data scientist is faced in business applications. The presentation ends with a brief introduction into the important topic of data ethics and a call for further discussions.
