Mumble Voice Chat
The IRB provides a Mumble Server for students and faculty.
Mumble offers high-quality and fully encrypted Voice Chat with low latency and bandwidth requirements. A chat system is integrated. Group sizes of 80 or more participants are possible.
Official Mumble Clients are available for all prevalent operating systems; third-party mobile applications for Android and iOS are exist, plumble for example. While we recommend use of the dedicated clients, we have provided a Web client as well. Please note that the web client does not support all features of the desktop client.
Our Mumble server supports Single Sign-On; please log in with your usual IMT username and password. Please note that activating the CS Department IT-Services is not necessary for this service.
Creation of both temporary and permanent Channels for Group Chat is supported. More complex use-cases, including password-protection and hierarchical permission systems, are also possible. Please contact us per Email if you require these so that we can provide an individualized solution.
Please note: A user must have logged into the Mumble server at least once before complex permissions can be applied to them.
Access for External Collaborators
Access to the Mumble server for external collaborators is possible. Please apply for an IMT Guest Account for each person that requires access. The procedure to do so is documented at the IMT Wiki. Activating "IT-Dieste für Informatiker" (CS Department IT Services) is not necessary. Please be aware of the above notice regarding initial logins.

Unsere Mumble Instanz ist für die gesamte Uni verfügbar und kann beliebig für uni-assozierte Zwecke verwendet werden.
Für große Veranstaltungen: Der Bandbreitenbedarf bei den einzelnen Nutzern skaliert linear mit der Anzahl gleichzeitig redender Nutzer in einem Raum; somit sollte es dabei keine Probleme geben. Erfahrungsgemäß funktioniert es technisch einwandfrei 80 oder mehr Nutzer in einem Raum zu haben.

Unser Mumble server braucht kein Nutzerzertifikat. Sollten Sie schon eins haben wird dieses weiter verwendet, aber lediglich der login mittels IMT Username und Passwort ist für die authentifizierung nötig. Geben Sie diese an wenn Sie sich das erste Mal mit dem Server verbinden.
Sofern Sie einen Raum selbst angelegt haben können Sie Per "Rechtsclick > Edit" die Rechteverwaltung selbst übernehmen. Sollten Sie besondere Bedürfnisse haben oder dabei beraten werden wollen können wir Ihnen gerne weiterhelfen oder Rechteverwaltung für Sie einrichten.
Zugang zum Server für Uni-externe Projektpartner ist möglich. Bitte beantragen sie einen Gast Account beim IMT für jede Person die Zugriff haben soll. Wie man so einen IMT Gast Account bekommt ist im IMT Wiki Dokumentiert. Freischalten der "IT-Dienste für Informatiker" sind hier nicht nötig.
