Project Group: VR-Serious: Seated Locomotion for VR Serious Games
Motivation
Serious games are a category of games, where entertainment is not the main focus. Instead, they aim to convey content to the user while still be entertaining. One of the most known types of serious games are simple learning games (Edutainment). But there exist other types, like games aiming to (in a specific area) make the world better (Games for Change) or to increase the Awareness for a specific problem.
Virtual Reality (VR) uses stereoscopic images and sensors in the headset and controllers to create an immersive experience – almost everything we perceive is virtual.
In cooperation with a practical seminar in media studies, we develop a VR Serious Game, which includes learning/conveying content but also focusses on being entertaining to play.
We want to develop and evaluate different interaction and locomotion techniques, which support playing while sitting. Content-wise, a possible scenario could be a wheelchair user navigating through a variety of situation.
