At the beginning of October, a new phase of life begins for many young adults when they start studying. In order to facilitate the transition from school mathematics to the teaching content at a university, the Institute of Mathematics at the University of Paderborn is offering preliminary courses from September 2nd to 27th. The courses take place in person at the university. In addition, the institute provides extensive online material so that participants can brush up on the content through self-study. Those interested can find further information and registration options at go.upb.de/Vorkurs2024 .

The preliminary mathematics course is aimed at all first-year students who plan to study mathematics, chemistry, chemical engineering, computer science, business information technology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, computer engineering, industrial mathematics, materials science or teaching with the subject mathematics for high school and comprehensive school or vocational college. Accordingly, the preliminary courses serve, on the one hand, to refresh and deepen the mathematics knowledge of secondary level I and II and, on the other hand, to prepare students for the working methods and content of university mathematics.

The content covered in the preliminary courses is relevant for all future mathematics courses and is required for the course. The institute works with materials that have been tried and tested over many years and are constantly being further developed, which were created in close collaboration between mathematicians and mathematics didactics. At the same time, participants have the opportunity to get to know the university and their new fellow students.
