In the winter semester 2025/2026, 125 international students started their Master's degree programme at the Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics. To welcome them to Paderborn University, the Welcome Days were held from 8-9 October.
The Institute of Computer Science at Paderborn University is presenting six new films that provide specific information about teaching at the institute. The first films are "Designing Code Analyses for Large-Scale Software Systems" by Prof. Dr. Eric Bodden, "Introduction to Human-Centered Machine Learning" and "Machine Learning for Biometrics" by Dr.-Ing. Philipp Terhörst and "Quantum Networks" by Dr. Zahra Raissi.
From October 1, 2025, Prof. Dr. Axel-Cyrille Ngonga Ngomo will take over the office of Vice Dean for Computer Science. He succeeds Prof. Dr. Eric Bodden, whom the Faculty would like to thank for his commitment. Also on October 1, Prof. Dr. Balázs Kovács will succeed Prof. Dr. Tobias Weich as Vice Dean for Mathematics. We would also like to thank Prof. Weich for his dedicated work in the Dean's Office.
The MALEO (Machine Learning and Optimisation) group had a fantastic time at GECCO 2025 in Malaga, where we were honoured to receive the Best Paper Award for:
"Deep Reinforcement Learning for Instance-Specific Algorithm Configuration" (in collaboration with Elias Schede and Kevin Tierney, Bielefeld University).
We also presented:
