In the current ranking of the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE), the University of Paderborn achieved top positions in all disciplines examined. This year, the subjects; biochemistry, biology / life sciences, chemistry, geography, earth sciences, computer science, mathematics, medicine, nursing science, pharmacy, physics, political science, sports / sports science and dentistry were put to the test. The ranking, which was published yesterday, is the most comprehensive university comparison in the German-speaking world, with around 120,000 students surveyed and more than 300 universities, universities of applied sciences, dual universities and universities of cooperative education. In the field of computer science, the University of Paderborn is among the best three institutions nationwide.

According to CHE, students at the University of Paderborn are particularly satisfied with the general study situation in the subjects of Chemistry and Computer Science. Chemistry students praise the support during their studies, the organisation of their studies and the laboratory practicals as well as the teaching of scientific, methodological and interdisciplinary skills. Computer science students also rate the supervision, the support for studying abroad, the rooms, the IT infrastructure and the equipment of the workstations as very good. The subject of computer science proves to be very strong in research, which is reflected in the above-average number of publications and research funds per scientist.

Prof. Dr. Peter Schreier, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics, and Prof. Dr. Wolf Gero Schmidt, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, are pleased with the results: "We are proud to be in the top groups with all the subjects examined. This is a nice recognition of our colleagues who, in addition to excellent research, continuously work on the further development and improvement of teaching, taking into account student wishes and suggestions."

The university ranking takes into account student judgements as well as facts about teaching and research. Depending on the subject and criterion, the universities are divided into a top group, a middle group and a bottom group. The results can be viewed at: ranking.zeit.de/che/en/.
