Request database
To request a database, please send an e-mail to irb-linux-support[at]uni-paderborn.de.
As the IRB must have a permanent contact person, databases can only be requested from us by permanent employees of the computer science department and must have such a contact person throughout their entire lifetime. In order to be able to use a database as a student, e.g. for a bachelor thesis, we ask you to have the request forwarded to the IRB by your supervisor.
Our databases are only accessible within the university or via VPN. We will not provide databases that need to be accessible outside the university network. Furthermore, we enforce an SSL/TLS encrypted connection to the database on our database cluster, as communication with the database takes place via a shared network.
We require the following information about the new database in the informal text of your e-mail:
- Name of the database
- Purpose of the database
- Type(currently always "MariaDB / MySQL")
- Connection information
- User name (by default the same as the name of the database)
- Connection origin
- If a server application is to access the database: The FQDN of the server
- If the database is to be accessed directly: * (due to the network restriction, this means within the university)
- Expected resources required (rough initial estimates are sufficient here)
- Memory requirements (relevant for more than 1GB of data)
- Transactions per minute (generally only relevant if you know this figure)
- Contact person
- Administrator (AdminC) - bears responsibility for the database; must be a permanent employee
- Name
- IMT account name
- E-mail address
- Specialist group
- Technical (TechC) - technical supervisor of the VM (operating system, services, etc.), if different from AdminC; can be a student
- Name
- IMT account name
- email address
- Telephone number (only in an emergency: e.g. compromised database)
- Administrator (AdminC) - bears responsibility for the database; must be a permanent employee
- Term
- Standard term: 15 months
- The AdminC is informed three months before expiry and has the option to extend the database for up to one year at a time.
- Optional: Other requirements, e.g. multiple users
We at IRB will be happy to advise you individually to find the optimum database configuration for your needs.
