Linking apprenticeship and studies

Are you currently in an apprenticeship or have you already completed one? We offer you the opportunity to combine the content of your training with the Bachelor's degree in Computer Science!

With the creation of standardised credit transfer guidelines, we want to create a reliable basis for students and prospective students who are currently in or have already completed an apprenticeship for the transfer of content of their apprenticeship.

The guidelines were created on the basis of the framework plans of the apprenticeship programmes and, in the case of apprenticeship programmes that overlap with the degree programme, it will be possible to shorten the duration of studies and benefit from previously acquired knowledge. At the same time, it is possible to better combine apprenticeship and studies as part of the "dual" degree programme.

What is creditable?

In the following table you will find an overview of which courses you can have recognised, depending on your apprenticeship. These courses will then count as completed for your degree programme.

Please note:

  • "Studienleistung only" means that participation in the written examination is possible without having attended the course in advance and earn the “Studienleistung”.
  • To receive credit for the Softwaretechnikpraktikum (SWTPra), a 5-10-page report must be prepared which describes the extent to which the learning objectives of the SWTPra were achieved on the basis of the practical part of the course. Follow the instructions for writing the report.

What needs to be considered?

  • The requirements for studying at a university must be met. Anyone with a general higher education entrance qualification can study at any university. If you have a subject-specific higher education entrance qualification, it is possible to study with an appropriate admission test.
  • Integrate apprenticeship and studies: Credits are recognised on the basis of the final certificate and can therefore only be awarded after completion of apprenticeship. If you only gain admission to university when you complete your apprenticeship, you can only start your studies after completing your apprenticeship.
  • Grades: The grades of the final certificate are used for recognition.
  • No improvement after crediting: Students who have had a course credited cannot subsequently take an exam on the course in order to improve their grades. If you are unhappy with your grades in the programme, you should not have the relevant courses credited, but instead take the exam for the courses.
  • No crediting after completion of the course: If you have already completed a course, you cannot have it credited afterwards.
  • Crediting procedure: Crediting can only take place once you have started your degree programme and completed your apprenticeship. If apprenticeship and studies are interlinked, credit will only be awarded in the advanced semester (e.g. in the third semester). Credit is not awarded automatically, but must be applied for via the Study Service.

Possible schedule

The accreditation means that individual courses can be omitted and others (such as Programmiersprachen) can be brought forward. If you combine your apprenticeship  with your studies, you can create more free time for the final examination in the third semester.

It is also conceivable, as the coursework for Programmierung 2 can be credited, to postpone the exam to the semester that suits you best.

FAQ

If a apprenticeship programme is not listed, please contact us.

Recognition is based on the respective framework plans in order to avoid having to make decisions on a case-by-case basis. If not already done, the framework plan valid at the time must be analysed in order to be able to make a reliable statement.

No. Only the courses that you would like to have recognised will be credited.

For the apprenticeships listed, we have already carried out a comparison with the module plans of the degree programme and it is not possible to credit further courses. If a apprenticeship is not listed, the examination has not yet been carried out. In this case, please contact us.
