Welcome to the Computer Engineering Group

Our field of activity is the hardware-software interface of modern computing systems. The increasing heterogeneity of design goals and emerging technologies require constant innovation at the hardware-software interface. We are interested in the design and evaluation of novel computer architectures, the development of design methods and tools, and in prototypical application design for embedded and high-performance computing systems. Currently, our research focuses on the paradigms of reconfigurable computing, self-* computing, and approximate computing.

„I have always been fascinated by the interplay between hardware and software. Luckily, I could turn this fascination into my profession. Today, my group works on exciting research topics and is passionate about training students in this area of hardware-software co-design.”

Teaching

In teaching, we run 1st and 2nd year Bachelor courses in "Digital Design" and "Computer Architecture" for students of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Engineering. For Bachelor students of Computer Engineering, we regularly contribute to the practicum "Microcontroller and Interface Electronics" and the "System Design Team Project". For 3rd year Bachelor and Master's students, we offer courses, seminars, and projects related to embedded systems, computer architecture, hardware/software co-design, and reconfigurable computing. In the following, you can find an overview of currently taught and past courses, as well as a prognosis for courses offered in the upcoming semesters.

Bachelor

  • Digitaltechnik (6/5 bzw. 5/4 LP, Deutsch), jedes Sommersemester
  • Rechnerarchitektur (6/5 bzw. 5/4 LP, Deutsch), jedes Wintersemester
  • Eingebettete Systeme (6 LP, Deutsch), jedes Sommersemester
  • Praktikum Mikrokontroller und Interface-Elektronik (6 LP, Deutsch), jedes Wintersemester
  • Systementwurf-Teamprojekt (6 LP, Deutsch), jedes Wintersemester

Master

  • Advanced Computer Architecture (6 LP, Englisch), every winter semester
  • Reconfigurable Computing (6 LP, Englisch), winter semester 2025/26
  • Research Seminar Computer Engineering (Englisch), every winter semester
