BAföG performance certificates in the subject Computer Science

A BAföG performance record is required by those who apply for BAföG funding for the first time or as further funding in the Bachelor's programme from the fifth or later semester onwards. For funding in the first four semesters of the Bachelor's programme and in the Master's programme, proof of academic performance is not required.

The proof of performance for the application for continued support after the 4th semester (Bachelor) certifies either the achievements that were achieved by the end of the 4th semester or correspondingly lower achievements that were achieved by the end of the 3rd semester. The latter can avoid delays in the application or continuation of payment. At the bottom of the page it is stated which credits must be verified in Computer Science programs.

When entering or re-entering BAföG funding in the 6th or higher semester, correspondingly higher academic achievements must be verified. The BAföG representative for Computer Science can answer questions about the scope of the required study achievements.

On the website of the Student Union Paderborn you will find information about BAföG and how to apply (German only). General information on BAföG can also be found at:

NEW: If you have completed the study achievements listed below for the 3rd or 4th semester, you can obtain a certificate from the Central Examination Office (with date, stamp and signature) confirming the total number of ECTS points achieved and submit it directly to the BAföG office. In this case you do not need to submit another form.

If you are not sure whether your study achievements are sufficient, or if other achievements could be recognised instead of missing ECTS points, ask the BAföG representative for Computer Science for advice during his/her office hours. Please bring along a grade confirmation from the examination office.

In order to be eligible for further support from the 5th semester onwards, students must submit a one-time proof of the academic achievements that have been acquired by the end of the third or fourth semester (up to 31st March or 30th September). It will still be accepted if an examination is scheduled shortly thereafter or the results are not announced until later.

In the Bachlor programme Computer Science 115 ECTS credits must be earned after the 5th semester, 90 ECTS credits after the 4th semester (of 120 possible) or 65 ECTS credits after the 3rd semester.

After the 4th semester, 33 ECTS credits (of 45 possible) must be earned in the course of study Teaching Computer Science GuG or after the 3rd semester, 24 ECTS credits in the subject Computer Science. In addition, a BAföG certificate of achievement must be provided for the second subject.

Please consult the BAföG representative if you have not acquired exactly the required credits.

For applications for funding from the 6th semester or higher, additional performance must be proven. Please seek advice from th BAföG representative.

Students who receive BAföG at the end of their Bachelor's degree and continue their studies in the Master's programme can also be funded in the Master's programme according to BAföG, as these Bachelor's and Master's programmes are consecutive. No further proof of performance other than admission to the Master's programme is required.

However, the completed enrolment in the Master's programme is a prerequisite for BAföG funding. Proof that all requirements for the Master's degree have been met (and therefore courses in the Master's degree can be taken) is not sufficient. A gap in BAföG funding may occur between the completion of the Bachelor's programme and the formal start of the Master's programme at the beginning of the following semester. According to the BAföG Office, this cannot be avoided at present until an otherwise desirable transitional arrangement has been established.
